Remember that the web server is not running as "you". It runs as a special user called local system service with very limited rights for security reasons.

You need to create a user under which the web server will run and create the same user on the remote machine. For security reasons, it is a very bad idea to use your own personal account. Use a different user account.

• Create a Special Web Service User.
• Go to Settings / Control Panel / Users
• Create a user named "webservice" and give that user "standard rights"
• Give user a clever password that makes you happy
• Create the same user name on the Share Server with the same password.
• Make sure this user on both machines has access rights to the share and local resources
• If you are running a Domain Controller, just create a special Domain User to do this
• Go to the Services Tab on "Settings / Control Panel / Administration Tools"
• Select Services
• You will see the Apache service near the top of the list. DoubleClick on the Apache Service
• Select the Log On tab.
• You will see that the system defaults to the Local System Account
• Change the Logon to the "webservice" account you created and enter the clever password that you gave it
• You don't need to restart Apache yet. You have a few more changes to make.
• Apache will run as the "webservice" user instead of the local system account and when it tries to access a remote share, it will do so using that account and password
• Now you can add an alias to the remote share in the httpd.conf file
• Remember that Alias names are case sensitive
• This may sound involved, but it takes longer to talk about then actually do
• Below Is an example:

•    	################### YoDJ #####################
  
  Alias /music/  "//thatserver/musicfiles/"
     	

Two Notes:
• The slashes are all forward. This is necessary.
• We are not using a directory statement here. It will fail if we don't manually map to the server using the servicename account which pretty much defeats the purpose.
• Don't be tempted to fire up YoDJ yet. First verify that the Alias works. Copy the test.mp3 file into the remote share directory and make sure that you can access it.
• You have created a user account for the webserver and the same account and password on the remote server. The web server will connect to the remote share using this account.
• Once you have added the new Alias to the httpd.conf file, you should restart Apache
• Pay attention to any potential error messages
• Once you have confirmed that Alias using UNC works, you can update the YODJ.ini file. Don't touch the ini file until you have confirmed that the Alias works or you will drive yourself nuts!
Below is an example of a YODJ.ini file using a UNC:

•    	rootdir = //thatserver/musicfiles/
     	webroot = /music/	
     	

• Fire up YODJ and cross your fingers. That should be it!
